When you start to become more proficient with MS Project, one of the things you might want to do is add more resource assignments to tasks and modify the time those resources should be spending on the task.

When you first get started, it might be good enough to add someone to a task like this:

In the example above, we needed two resources for our task with one person working on it full-time and the other person part time.  To accomplish this we simply typed “Steve,Sharon[50%]”.  This is easy enough but what if you want more control?  Maybe you want to see all the available resources on your project from a drop-down list or maybe you want to specify the number of hours Sharon is working?

There is a really easy way of accomplishing this task.  In MS Project choose Window->Split from the menu bar.

With this feature turned on, you will notice how much easier it is to assign resources, modify the % of allocation or even define the specific number of hours.  Notice that you can also perform basic operations on the task itself, such as changing the %Complete, task types and so on. -Bill
