Hello All,
Well, it’s been a very (very!) long week but I am really happy to share with you a quick little preview of what will be coming with the desktop version of Project 2010. The key highlights are:
- New Fluent UI (tabbed interface) — Just like PowerPoint, Excel and Word, Microsoft Project gets a whole new user interface with tabs instead of menu items.
- Manually Scheduled Tasks — This is one we will love and hate — or hate and love — or just love — or just hate — or appreciate it and move on. Kidding aside, this is a great new feature for those people that typically skip Microsoft Project and design uber-advanced Excel spreadsheets. Now you can manually schedule your tasks and then let MS Project automatically calculate them where necessary. Now I will not get into all the details here and why it’s a good thing and why others may not like it but check it out in the video and we will have a much more lively conversation on this in the near future.
- Team Planner — Adjust resource over-allocations by dragging-and-dropping them into locations that make sense. This is a powerful new feature that many third-party software providers have built but now it is fully baked into the product.
- Timeline View — This is the slickest new feature of Project 2010, which let’s you create a rich visual depiction of your project for sharing with your teams and executive sponsors. And before you ask, no it is not just another Gantt chart picture
